What to Wear with Which: The Shapewear You Should Wear With Your Garments

January 13, 2020

As a curvy girl shapewear is very important when it comes to looking right and tight. The one thing I despise most is seeing someone with the perfect dress on but everything is spilling over. No matter if you are curvy or skinny, shapewear can be very beneficial when it comes to wearing certain clothing. Most of us have “problem areas” or areas on our bodies that we don’t necessarily love and that is where a good shapewear comes in handy. There are so many choices when it comes to selecting the right shapewear. I will be the first to admit, some of them work, some of them don’t. There are some that work with skirt but not with pants. Some that work with pants, but may not work with shorts. To make a long story short, finding the right shapewear is very hard. Luckily, I have I have tried many of them and I own a ton. The biggest mistake people make is thinking shapewear is a one size fits all type thing. Shapewear should be determined by the garment you decide to wear and it is differently not one size fits all. I’ve listed some of my favorite shapewear and what garment to wear them under.

To Wear with Skirts

The skirt slip shapewear is perfect solution when wearing skirts, especially short ones. They come up high enough for tummy control and they are short enough so they won’t show under shorter dresses.  Skims by Kim Kardashian has a really good one for those that need strong or moderate support. What I also like about Skims Skirt Slip is that is also gives your but a little lift. If you have a skirt or dress that has a split, Skims was clever enough to give you a one leg option so that you can wear your shapewear even with a high split. One thing I don’t like about skirt slips is that they tend to roll up when you walk. I have yet to find one that doesn’t and honestly don’t think I ever will. Skims shapewear are always out of stock so if they happen to have your size, I suggest you grab them fast!

To wear with dresses

There are a few types of shapewear you can wear with dresses depending on you problem areas. High waist thongs are good for tummy control and perfect if your dress is thin, silk or you simply don’t want your underwear print to show. If your thighs are you trouble area try highwaist thigh control. One of my favorites is the ASSETS by Spanx high-waist mid thigh shaper. It’s Lightweight, dig-free construction offers all-day comfort and support. They target the tummy, thighs, hips, and but area.

To wear with low cut tops

When wearing low cut tops plunge neck shapewear is usually my choice. It supports the breast area giving them a lift while supporting the tummy area as well. I recommend the Body Veil Plunge Bodysuit by Felina Intimates. The bodysuit isn’t has firm as I would like for the tummy area but it does keep your body in tack and not jiggly. The plunge neck bra cups fit really well is you size right. If you are bold enough you can wear the bodysuit as a top.

To wear with strapless  garments

Wacoal Red Carpet Strapless Shaping Bodysuit is perfect for strapless garments. It took my a while to find strapless shapewear that I like because I have larger breast and they always seem to spill over no matter is I size up or down. Not only do I recommend the RedCarpet Strapless Shaping Bodysuit, I also recommend their bras as well. They have extended bra sizes and a great warranty if you are not satisfied.

Like most things in life, finding the perfect shapewear comes with trial and error. Also, these are the shapewear that work for me so they might not work for you. My suggestion is try before you buy whenever you can. That is the only way to decide which shapewear works best for you.

Let’s talk hair. Mine has been on a journey of its own. I wore my natural hair up until middle school when I was introduced to microwave ponytails. I use to have my moms kitchen smelling like mildew when I left the hair in the microwave too long . (I know this is weird to some but many people know what I’m talking about). —

When I got to college, I started wearing sew-ins and did so for a very long time. For me, they were very convenient and depending on who you ask, they help your hair grow and is considered a protective style. After undergrad I was introduced to wigs, thanks @thesocialbutterfly_aj ,and they changed my hair game forever !!! No longer did I have to sit in the salon for hours for a sew in. I simply washed my hair got it braided up and through on a wig.
____

Then I went to braids, another game changer thanks @braid3dbydesign and @stylesbymrsyo. They literally require little maintenance and you can keep them in a few months if you keep them clean and maintained. For a while I had been wanting to do something different with my hair. I was natural for over 10 years but never wore it out because I didn’t really know how to style it, or maybe I was just lazy.
_____

In January, I decided to cut and relax my hair. I was super nervous at first but @ashjotaylor put me at ease with her talented hands. Fast forward to March, salons shut down due to Covid. Though I was working from home, I had many Zoom calls and didn’t want to look crazy. I decided to take matters into my own hands and relax my own hair. That was a big mistake, I am unsure if I used old product or I kept it in too long but my hair started coming out immediately. I had to cut what was left of it off and now I am working to get it to grow again. I don’t think I’ll relax it again but I’m also not against relaxer.
_____

I’ve learned a few things through this hair process:

1️⃣ Go to a licensed professional if you can.
2️⃣Your diet plays a huge role in maintaining heathy hair.
3️⃣Protective styles are great if you don’t know how or what to do with your hair.
4️⃣Take your vitamins, they also are beneficial to maintaining healthy hair.
