5 Fun Galentine’s Day Thing to do with you BFFs

January 24, 2020

Galentine’s Day has officially become a household holiday with events happening everywhere to celebrate with your gal pal. What is Galentine’s Day you ask?  Well, it started as a fiction dating back to 2010 on an episode of Parks and Recreation.  The character Leslie wanted to celebrate the joys of female friendship, so she set Galentine’s Day as a festival that would fall, each year, on February 13: Valentine’s Day eve and now the rest is history. It has been a tradition of mine in the last few years, to celebrate friendships and I really enjoy doing so. Whether you celebrate with you BFF or your girl gang, I put together 5 fun ways to celebrate Galentine’s Day.

Go see a movie

Go see a good chick flick with your girlfriends. If you want to save money and time, have your girls bring over their favorite movie or you guys can make it a Netflix and chill night for ladies. There are always great movies that are released in February. I plan to go see ” The Photograph” which is a cute little love story featuring Issa Rae.

Treat yourself to something nice

Remember that cute dress you’ve been eyeing all week? Treat yourself to it and you can even encourage your gal pal to grab her one as well. I have been eyeing this pink Dior bag for a few months, I think Galentine’s Day will be the perfect time to purchase it.

Have a spa day

What better way to spend Galentine’s Day than with a nice relaxing spa treat. Try and good facial or even a mani, pedi. You can even book and couples massage, nobody has to know *wink.

Have a Galentine exchange with your girlfriends.

Put everyones name in a hat and draw names. Get your person chocolates, roses or even a nice bottle of wine. You can even have them delivered to their job as an added bonus.

Have an Anti-Valentine’s Day

Remember the movie “Valentine’s Day” when Jessica Biel’s character throw an Anti-Valentine’s Day party? Dress in all black, make a dinner reservation with girls and take shots with the girls. Make it a fun night!

Let’s talk hair. Mine has been on a journey of its own. I wore my natural hair up until middle school when I was introduced to microwave ponytails. I use to have my moms kitchen smelling like mildew when I left the hair in the microwave too long . (I know this is weird to some but many people know what I’m talking about). —

When I got to college, I started wearing sew-ins and did so for a very long time. For me, they were very convenient and depending on who you ask, they help your hair grow and is considered a protective style. After undergrad I was introduced to wigs, thanks @thesocialbutterfly_aj ,and they changed my hair game forever !!! No longer did I have to sit in the salon for hours for a sew in. I simply washed my hair got it braided up and through on a wig.
____

Then I went to braids, another game changer thanks @braid3dbydesign and @stylesbymrsyo. They literally require little maintenance and you can keep them in a few months if you keep them clean and maintained. For a while I had been wanting to do something different with my hair. I was natural for over 10 years but never wore it out because I didn’t really know how to style it, or maybe I was just lazy.
_____

In January, I decided to cut and relax my hair. I was super nervous at first but @ashjotaylor put me at ease with her talented hands. Fast forward to March, salons shut down due to Covid. Though I was working from home, I had many Zoom calls and didn’t want to look crazy. I decided to take matters into my own hands and relax my own hair. That was a big mistake, I am unsure if I used old product or I kept it in too long but my hair started coming out immediately. I had to cut what was left of it off and now I am working to get it to grow again. I don’t think I’ll relax it again but I’m also not against relaxer.
_____

I’ve learned a few things through this hair process:

1️⃣ Go to a licensed professional if you can.
2️⃣Your diet plays a huge role in maintaining heathy hair.
3️⃣Protective styles are great if you don’t know how or what to do with your hair.
4️⃣Take your vitamins, they also are beneficial to maintaining healthy hair.
