I think it is safe to say, cardigans have been around for a very long time. I remember watching a show when I was a child called ‘Mr. Rogers Neighborhood”. Mr Rogers had so many cardigans with an array of colors. As a child, I thought they were super boring. Even though cardigans are not one of my Top 10 favorite pieces. This one will be in my wardrobe rotation for quite a while.

What attracted me most about this cardigan was the color and the fact that it is oversized. I wore it as a dress here but I could totally wear it over a nice dress or even a comfy pair of jeans. I added a bodysuit underneath but wanted to keep the colors neutral. I am a total sucker for hats so I pulled out one of my favorites to give this look a little emph. So they wouldn’t feel alone, I wore a nude pair of knee high boots and finished off this look with a chain link bag from Michael Kors.

Hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving!!

I have to admit, I was not a fan of the pajama trend when it was first introduced a while back. I could not understand how dressing up in your pjs and going outside, other than checking your mailbox was okay. After seeing the way many of my favorite fashionista’s and celebrities styled them, I swayed my vote and hopped on the pajama trend bandwagon. I love the slip dresses and tops. I also adore the two piece matching pajama sets when styled well. When I saw this robe I was on the fence about it because of the fact that it sort of looks like a robe my dad owns. However, I fell in love with the fabric and the way it flows. What really sealed the deal for me was the rose in the back of it.

That rose brought me back to my first year of college as a freshman. The first day of my American History class, my professor pulled out a book and it was titled “The Rose That Grew from Concrete” a collection of poems written by my all time favorite rapper , 2 Pac Shakur. Not only was I excited to study something written by a Hip Hop artist in an American History class, I was also very intrigued by the title. Can you imagine how difficult it is for a rose to grow from concrete? A beautiful delicate flower growing out of very hard material. I immediately thought to myself, WOW, that is me. I am that rose.

I had a very rough upbringing. My mother was a single mom with two children working two jobs. We lived in very bad areas of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and I was determined to get out. I can bore you with all my trials and tribulations but I wont. We all have a story to tell. Fast forward to today, I have two degrees, working on a third and I am in a career field that I love. Oh yeah and I am a fashion blogger!! It goes to show you that a rose really can grow from concrete if it is showered with love.

The election results are in. Hate it or Love it, we now have a new president. Now more than ever we ALL have to come together an be united. I love collaborating and working with others. Not only does it allow you get results quicker or complete things faster, it also allows you to see things from a different viewpoint. This collaboration with Howistyledit was so fun. I don’t know if it is our African roots or our similar taste in fashion but working with Howistyledit was like working with my little sister.

We decided to go with the velvet trend for our collaboration. The color choice was accidental but I love the bold blue fabric.  Velvet is so soft against your skin. To be honest I never thought I would love it the way I do now. My outfit details are below and be sure to visit Howistyledit blog to get details of her gorgeous outfit.

Sneaker and flats are making a serious comeback this season. I honestly don’t think they ever went away but they have come a long way from the traditional ballet flats. I love a “dressy flat” like the ones pictured. The style of them are very masculine however when paired with a dress or skirt the look becomes much more feminine. Patent leather is such a formal material and is great when you are wanting to dress up any look. I thought this patent leather bag was the perfect addition to the look I was going for.

Burgundy is definitely my favorite Fall color, it is the shade of red that is so elegant and beautiful. I fell in love with this dress because of its color, but I also felt the collar and bow was a cute added touch. This dress is yet another piece I scored from Target X Who What Wear. I simply can not get enough of the brand. Each month, the designers at Who What Wear sends a fresh new collection to Target and they are always on trend and always at a great price. Now if this Houston weather would cool down a bit I would really be happy.
