This past weekend I traveled back to my hometown of Baton Rouge, La to partake in so much needed fun. It was the Homecoming of my Alma Mater, Southern University and my 10 year reunion for receiving my Bachelors degree. Wow!! Time really waits for no one. While I was there I decided to snap a few pictures. I graduated from Southern University and the school colors are yellow and blue so I thought the dress I choose to wear was perfect.

The weather is finally beginning to cool down a little so I took the opportunity to wear this long sleeve belted dress I purchased while on vacation in Dubai. I fell in love with the color and the gold buttons and belt sealed the deal for me. I paired it with my favorite sandals of the moment. The crazy thing is, I have had them for a while now and I recently noticed the Balmain X H&M collection has a very similar pair. Unfortunately the collection isn’t available till November 5th and I am sure everything will sale out in minutes.

I purchased the sandals from a local boutique here in Houston but was able to find an online boutique that carries them.  Sadly, the dress is not available online but I found an alternative.  Hope you guys had a great week!!!

It is officially Fall, but if you live anywhere in the South like I do then you already know the Winter struggle. I am so ready to wear my warm cozy sweaters and thigh high boots. Fall weather allows you to get the fashion fix you need. More clothing during the colder weather is essential which means you have more ways to slay. You can finally box up those maxi dresses and rompers you loved so much in the Summer months. I am transitioning my closet as we speak to get ready for what I hope will be much cooler weather.

This look is definitely coming with me into the Fall. My favorite color is white and I never followed the silly rule that you can not wear white after Labor Day. I love the lace top because it looks so Victorian. I also purchased it in black because I loved it that much. Unfortunately,I scored it at a local boutique here is Houston. I have yet to find anything close online but I did include in alternative.

I feel in love with the skirt the moment I saw it. I purchased it at a store in Dubai for about $60 US dollars. It is very well made and the pictures do not give it any justice. The detailing on the skirt are tiny little polka dots that are super adorable. The store has a website but a very disappointing one. It does not include any of the fabulous pieces that I purchased in Dubai and honestly looks like a totally different store.

Houston is a very beautiful city and has many  hidden treasure much like the little gem I found near Downtown that reminded me of a scene in Alice and Wonderland.  The landscaping was amazing and their were huge, gorgeous columns. One quick look and I knew I have to snap a few pictures there. I look forward to sharing more fashion and beauty with you guys.

Happy Blog Anniversary to me!!! It is hard to believe that it has been a year since I started blogging and I could not think of a better way to celebrate than to relaunch with a new name, a new website and a new attitude. I began blogging a year ago as an outlet to express myself through fashion but it has grown to become more than a past time hobby for me. I really enjoy it. Not only am I allowed to show readers and followers my take on style and fashion but I also receive great satisfaction when someone I do not even know comment, email or inbox me letting me know that I have inspired them in some way through fashion.

So, why did I change the name of my blog from MsChimee to Aroundthewaygyrl? Well, if you grew up in the 80s like me, then you should be familiar with the LL Cool J song, Around The Way Girl. A few of the lyrics:

Silky, bilky
Your smiles’ like sunshine
That’s why I had to dedicate at least one rhyme
To all the cuties in the neighborhood
‘Cause if I didn’t tell you, then another brother would
You’re sweet like sugar with your gangsta talk
Wanna eat you like a cookie when I see you walk
With your rayon, silk, or maybe even denim
It really doesn’t matter as long as your in ’em
You can break hearts and manipulate minds
Or surrender, act tender
Be gentle and kind
You always know what to say and do
Go flip when you think your man is playing
No cheap or petty
You’re ready for loving
You’re real independent, so your parents be buggin’
But if you ever need a place to stay
Come around my way

When that song was released I was only 8 years old but I remember watching the video and the women were so pretty to me.They were so well dressed at the time, biker shorts, bamboo earring, Fendi bag. They were confident and I though “Wow, I want to be like them!!”. Of course I was too young to really understand those girls probably were paid models, some might not have been what we consider “role models” today, but I wasn’t thinking about that at all. I was simply mesmerized by their confidence, independence and style when I watched the video. So when thinking of a new name for my blog that song and video played back in my mind.  I thought Aroundthewaygyrl was perfect because my blog is dedicated to the everyday women, what I consider to be Around The Way Girls, the girls that are strong, independent, confident with a bit of attitude. So cheers to you girl!!

I look forward to sharing some amazing things and I am so appreciative of my readers.
